Generic Role Profiles
Pay transparency, equal pay and career progression are essential pillars of a strong employee value proposition. Together, they help to built trust, motivate teams, and support long-term employee engagement within an organisation.
Generic role profiles are a powerful tool in achieving these goals. They support transparent pay structures by helping employees to understand the different levels across the organisation, what each level entails, how it is linked to pay, and how progression can be achieved. They also create a culture of fairness and accountability.
Each generic role profile provides a clear overview of what is typically expected in a role. This includes representative work activities, the level of responsibility, and what knowledge and experience is required. Acting as a template, they can be used across a range of similar roles, creating consistency and clarity in how roles are defined, compared and developed.

How can ECC help?
ECC provides the tools and resources to help ensure equal pay for work of equal value. Using the HERA or FEDRA analytical job evaluation scheme, members can develop grading structures that link directly to fair and transparent pay.
These structures can support the creation of job families and generic role profiles to support career progression and consistency across the organisation.
Using readily available information on ECC Online, members can develop job families and generic role profiles that align with their grading structure. Profiles can then be further developed using information from job descriptions, structure charts and any other evidence that has been used for evaluation purposes. Remembering that ECC Online can be used to store the evidence and can also create structure charts at the click of a button.
ECC can also provide support and training to help you develop comprehensive job descriptions that are written to ensure alignment to the HERA and FEDRA elements. There may also be opportunities to develop generic job descriptions that can cover roles with similar responsibilities across different specialisms.

Members can contact their ECC Consultant for support or training in generic role profiles or using ECC Online. Members may also choose to use their included consultancy day (1 day per year) to support this.
