Reviewing and regrading middle and senior roles

We have just completed the first major stage of a large project for the University of Bedfordshire to review and grade spot salary posts and job descriptions for 150 middle and senior managers. In time the project will also create HERA bandings for the staff group. With the project now moving into its second phase, Cathy Abu, Director of HR can already see the key benefits of ECC’s involvement:

“Knowledge, Consistency, Expertise and Professional Advice. ECC has been very responsive in turning round great volume of information within a limited timeframe. It’s been a very professional service, with the Consultant team not hesitating in challenging the university to ensure the outputs are consistent and fair.”

Simplifying the process

In 2014 Bishop Grosseteste University asked ECC to simplify their role review process. As well as reviewing and improving the way in which Bishop Grosseteste grades new roles, deals with regrades and provides feedback to role holders, we took their original 101 job descriptions and developed 26 template job descriptions in four job families from grades 2 to 10.

Head of HR Alison Smith told us that this project simply would not have got done alongside the normal operational pressures in the HR department.

“The consultant’s knowledge and experience was a real asset in helping me to formulate the outcome I wanted to achieve. I knew what the problems were but hadn’t a clear view of how to solve them! The consultant listened to our concerns, understood them and had a clear view of how they could be addressed. Working together in a very professional but friendly manner we always had the outcome in mind and set very clear goals for getting there. I would definitely recommend other members use ECC consultancy.”
